System Description :

The integumentary system is an organ system consisting of the skin, hair, nails, and exocrine glands. Skin forms the body's outer covering and forms a barrier to protect the body from chemicals, disease, UV light, and physical damage.

Functions of the Skin system :

The integumentary system consists of the skin, hair, nails, glands, and nerves. Its main function is to act as a barrier to protect the body from the outside world. It also functions to retain body fluids, protect against disease, eliminate waste products, and regulate body temperature.


What are the main functions of the skin?
The most important functions of the skin are :
* Regulates body temperature.
* Prevents loss of essential body fluids
* Penetration of toxic substances.
* Excretes toxic substances with sweat.
* Mechanical support.
* Protection of the body from harmful effects of the sun and radiation.

Parts of the Skin System :

Skin has three layers :
* The epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone.
* The dermis, beneath the epidermis, contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands.
* The deeper subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis) is made of fat and connective tissue.
